Memories

When I was a kid, the best memory that I have is of playing with my model boats with my dad. We would build them, polish them, refine them, and study them. There were a myriad of activities that my dad loved to do with the boats in our collection and loved them all. What made him fascinated by boats was the book Treasure Island. He just felt like that book was the ultimate in adventure and good natured mayhem and it translated for him in life with a lifelong fascination with wooden boats.
The first boat that he had, that my grandfather helped him build was the present that my father gave me on my high school graduation. He said that he wanted me to see the world, and the boat was symbolic of all his hopes and dreams for me. I hope to get my daughter into model boats as soon as she can walk.
